ST. MARK CHAVOGERE ORTHODOX SECONDARY SCHOOL BUS
St. Mark Chavogere Orthodox Secondary School is a project of the Missionary Orthodox Church in Kenya. The school started in the 70’s and gradually expanded to an extent that the Church couldn’t manage running it anymore. Therefore, the administration was ceded to the state, and the Orthodox Church was preserved in the Title and remains the Official Sponsor of the school, always working hand in hand with the
Principal, the teachers and the students for the school’s development. An Orthodox priest leads the service and admonishes the learners once a week. Several Orthodox students enjoy full or partial scholarship and the Diocese supports the school occasionally with bulk foodstuff for the feeding program, among other activities in the school where our Church is seriously involved.
Ten years ago, the school managed to collect funds from several entities and individuals and through the support from the Sponsoring Church and politicians, bought a school Bus! Not many schools in Kenya are privileged to have a Bus. This Bus apart from enabling necessary movements of the students, it was a source of revenue for the school, since it was hired frequently for miscellaneous purposes by other schools, churches and the community!
Unfortunately, due to lack of enough funds, the school wasn’t able to service the Bus and to pay for its insurance and the rest necessary licenses for the past three years and the Bus has remained still for quite some time! We can always notice the concern in the eyes of the Principal and the students as they witness their Bus grounding, while they are unable to do anything!
